WHAT is Microblading?
Microblading is a semi-permanent eyebrow procedure created by drawing on the hairs one by one by hand using a disposable micro blade that connects to a pen. It is different from traditional permanent cosmetics because with the traditional permanent cosmetics the needle used is longer and wider and the method used to implant the pigment is a tapping method that implants the pigments deeper into the skin. The results last anywhere from 2 to 5 to 10 years +. With microblading the pigment that is used is the same as the traditional permanent cosmetics however the placement is on the surface of the skin using a microneedle that resembles a scalpel- it is a finer and shorter blade that is made to slice or glide across the surface of the skin. Thin hair strokes are created to give a more realistic look that resembles a natural looking eyebrow. The results last from 4 to 9 months and up to 2 years depending on the person, how well they absorb the pigment, the aftercare during the healing processs and after in the months thereafter.
Does it hurt?
Yes, topical anesthetic is applied prior to beginning the procedure to make the client more comfortable. In general the painfrom varies person to person. It feels different from getting a traditional procedure .
How long is the healing process? Does it make your hair fall out or keep it from growing back?
Microblading is still a relatively new procedure so there are no current finding suggesting it keeps your hair from growing, however you are causing trauma to the skin and it is possible, especially with women who are near menopause or 30 years +. As women age their hair thins out on both the scalp and eyebrows so use your best discretion. During the microblading process it is common for some hairs The healing process last anywhere from 5-9 days. During the healing process your semi-permanent eyebrow procedure will go through several different phases. When you leave the procedure will look bold and dark in some instances because the color is fresh and has not be absorbed into the skin yet, and also because the ointment used to heal and protect the skin makes the procedure look shiny. Expect to go through a funky period where the skin and the procedure will flake and scab at about day 4 through day 6. The brows will look and feel like chunks or pieces of the procedure are falling off and essentially they are. You will probably freak out at this time because they will appear to be lighter. It is important not to pick, peel, or scratch the skin or the procedure , doing so may cause the pigment to come off or fade more! At week 3 is when you will really begin to see what the true color has healed to and at week 4 is generally when you go back in for the 30 day follow-up. During the second visit the entire brow is refreshed and any changes or add ons can be made, ex. more hair strokes, a darker color, or making the brows thicker or longer.
IT IS THE SECOND VISIT THAT WILL CARRY OUT THE LONGIVITY OF YOUR SEMI-PERMANT PROCEDURE BECAUSE WE HAVE ALREADY LAID A FOUNDATION AND NOW WE ARE LAYERING PIGMENT. EACH TIME YOU GET THEM TOUCHED UP YOU ARE CAUSING TRAUMA TO THE SKIN AND YOUR LAYERING PIGMENT SO YOUR SEMI-PERMANENT PROCEDURE BECOMES MORE AND MORE PERMANENT. WITH MOST PEOPLE THERE WILL ALWAYS BE SOME UNDERLYING PIGMENT. THIS IS A GOOD THING BECAUSE YOU WILL ALWAYS HAVE A GUIDE WHEN YOUR FILLING IN YOUR BROWS OR TWEEZING THEM.to get caught on the needle as it is gliding on your skin and in between your hairs.
How do you know what color to choose ?
It is best to pick a color that is true to the existing eyebrow hair not the head hair. Choosing a lighter color will make the eyebrow procedure look like it is already faded up against any darker eyebrow hair. Some people opt to go lighter then choose to go a shade darker at the second visit. Remember in general the semi-permanent procedure will fade about 30% after the healing process so choosing a color that matches the natural or existing eyebrow is strongly suggested. There are red browns, warm/gold browns, and black browns to choose from. Keeping the eyebrows protected from the sun and away from any harsh facial cleansers, creams, or treatments will keep the semi-permanent procedure from fading and turning color.
What is the process?
